Now that Julie’s back is getting better, we’ve been going out for longer and more difficult walks. Last weekend (our anniversary weekend) we decided to head out to the Woodland Park Zoo, over in Seattle. It was a beautiful day, although it was a little bit chilly. We’ve been having great weather lately, at least it’s been sunny, clear and cool.
The trip over to the zoo was really easy. It’s not that hard to get there from our apartment (another reason I love it’s location), but parking was something of a problem. We circled and circled and went round and round. The parking for the zoo is split up into several different lots, scattered around the perimeter of the zoo. None of the lots are very large and the spots are the small tight spaces that I’ve come to hate in this area. In one of the bigger lots, I finally broke down and waited for a couple to finish putting kids and strollers away and leave. We had to sit for about 5 minutes, but apparently it was a great day for zoo-in’ it.
Julie had given me a gift card for a two adult membership for Christmas, so I was excited about getting that activated. When we were talking to the cashier, we found out that the rates had gone up, but she was going to give it to us for the amount of the gift card! She said that since we had “purchased” the membership already, they would honor the price that we were given online. I thought that was AWESOME!
Once we were inside the zoo, I noticed that it’s not nearly as nice as the Toledo Zoo. I mean, it’s nice, but I haven’t seen one nearly as good as the Toledo Zoo. I honestly think that Toledo’s Zoo and Museum are some of the best in the country. At Woodland Park, they are working on a new penguin exhibit and they were having a preview for donors. It was quite a big deal with tents and even a guy dressed up as a penguin for the kids. I wanted to go up and get a picture with it, but I wasn’t a donor. ):
We did have a bite of lunch at the “food court.” I was VERY unimpressed. It looks like they had a variety of food service, but then some company ended up buying and running all the spots. In the food pavilion, there were several shopfronts that all had the same sign up, and the directory listed foods that were not offered any more. Not really a big deal, but I hate it when variety is taken away.
We didn’t stay TOO long, but we had a good walk around and got to look at some tigers, emus, a sloth bear (of course) and a cool exhibit where you could go in and feed some birds. Now, it’s time for the pictures!
